At Lin & Jirsa, we capture portraits with a focus on telling your story and capturing who you really are. For over fifteen years, we've specialized in creating clean, modern, emotionally resonant portraits for couples, families, and individuals throughout Southern California.
Our approach blends editorial aesthetics with authentic emotion, resulting in images that could grace the pages of a magazine yet feel unmistakably personal.
In our digital age, we take more photos than ever before — yet how many do you actually print, display, or frame? Professional portrait photography is different. It's intentional. It's artful. It becomes part of your home, your story, your legacy.
Start the ConversationEvery portrait session we create is customized to your vision, but we specialize in several specific types of portraiture. Each requires a slightly different approach, and we've refined our process for each over thousands of sessions.
Not every couples session needs to be about engagement or weddings. Sometimes you simply want beautiful photographs that celebrate your relationship exactly as it is right now.
These aren't stiff, formal portraits with forced smiles. They're intimate moments captured artfully — the way you look at each other when you think no one is watching, the comfortable silence between you, the laughter that erupts spontaneously.
The tone is always relaxed, cinematic, and deeply personal. You bring the connection; we bring the artistic vision to capture it beautifully.
Schedule Your Couples Session
Anniversaries deserve more than a dinner reservation and a card. They're milestones worth documenting — a celebration of everything you've built together and a marker of this moment in your ongoing story.
Whether you're celebrating your first anniversary or your fiftieth, these sessions blend romance, nostalgia, and refined artistry. Many couples return to meaningful locations: the beach where he proposed, the venue where you married, the park where you had your first date.
Many couples commission anniversary albums or wall art collections that display alongside their wedding photographs — a visual timeline of their relationship's evolution.
Schedule Your Anniversary SessionWhile Lin & Jirsa focuses primarily on wedding photography and couples portraiture, family, maternity, and newborn photography require specialized focus and expertise. That's why we established Line & Roots — our dedicated portrait studio. Line & Roots maintains the same aesthetic philosophy: clean, modern, timeless imagery, with a team exclusively devoted to family-centered photography.
Family photographs become more precious with every passing year. Your children grow impossibly fast. Professional family portraits preserve these moments before they're gone. Line & Roots specializes in fine art and lifestyle sessions that capture your family's authentic dynamic — playing together, laughing together, simply being together.

Pregnancy is simultaneously fleeting and all-consuming. Maternity portraits celebrate this unique chapter with artistry and intention — not just documenting your changing body, but capturing the anticipation, the wonder, and the intimate connection between parent and child before they've even met. Sessions are typically scheduled at 32–36 weeks.

Visit Line & RootsOver thousands of portrait sessions, we've answered every question imaginable. Here are the most common.
Single location, one outfit: Usually 60–90 minutes. This provides plenty of time to capture diverse images without rushing, while keeping energy and enthusiasm high throughout.
Multiple locations or outfit changes: Typically 2–3 hours. Moving between locations and changing clothing takes time, and we want to ensure we have adequate shooting time at each spot.
Family sessions with young children: Often shorter (45–60 minutes) because children's patience and cooperation have natural limits. Line & Roots structures family sessions specifically around children's attention spans.
We provide comprehensive wardrobe guidance after booking, but here are general principles:
Choose colors that photograph well. Jewel tones, earth tones, and muted colors typically photograph beautifully. Avoid neon colors, busy patterns, and large logos. For couples, coordinating without exactly matching creates cohesion.
Consider your location. Beach sessions call for flowing, lighter fabrics. Urban sessions might involve more structured clothing. Garden settings often work beautifully with softer, romantic styles.
Prioritize fit and comfort. Clothing should fit well and allow you to move freely. Add texture through knit sweaters, linen shirts, or flowing scarves — texture photographs beautifully and adds visual interest.
We're always happy to review photos of your clothing options before your session if you'd like that extra reassurance.
Absolutely — and you don't need to be models. Most of our clients have never done a professional portrait session before. Guiding you through natural, flattering poses is part of our job.
Our approach blends direction with authenticity. We're not putting you in rigid, uncomfortable poses. Instead, we give you prompts and movements that create natural-looking results: "Walk toward me slowly while talking to each other," or "Look at each other and say something that makes you both laugh."
We're also constantly making micro-adjustments — "Shift your weight to your back foot," "Chin down just a bit" — that make significant differences in the final images without making you feel constantly critiqued.
By the end of most sessions, clients tell us they forgot they were being photographed. That's exactly what we're aiming for.
Portrait sessions are more flexible than wedding photography, but we recommend booking 2–6 weeks in advance when possible. This ensures we have your preferred date and time, adequate consultation time, and the ability to schedule during optimal lighting conditions.
For sessions during popular times (fall colors, spring wildflowers, holiday card season in November), booking 6–8 weeks out is advisable. That said, we've accommodated last-minute sessions with just a few days' notice when schedules align — reach out and we'll do our best.
Yes. For sessions within Southern California (Los Angeles, Orange County, San Diego, Riverside), travel is typically included in your session fee for reasonable distances.
For Northern California locations (San Francisco, Bay Area, Napa Valley, Big Sur) or other destinations, we add travel fees covering transportation and accommodations when needed. We particularly love destination sessions tied to meaningful locations — the place you got engaged, your hometown, somewhere significant to your relationship.
Absolutely. Pets are family, and we love including them. Dogs work particularly well for outdoor sessions — beaches, parks, and trails where they're comfortable. Cats work beautifully for in-home lifestyle sessions.
Some of our favorite portrait images include couples with their dogs. The authenticity and joy are impossible to replicate.
Digital files: Every session includes high-resolution digital files with full printing rights delivered through a beautiful online gallery. The gallery remains accessible indefinitely.
Prints: We offer professional lab printing in various sizes and materials — traditional prints, canvas, metal, acrylic, and more.
Albums: For couples wanting heirloom-quality albums (particularly popular for anniversary sessions), we offer the same Italian-crafted albums we provide for weddings — lay-flat binding, archival paper, and custom design.
Wall art collections: We help you select and curate wall art for your home, whether a single large statement piece or a collection in complementary sizes and frames.
You're welcome to bring people for moral support, but sessions generally go more smoothly with fewer observers. Having an audience — even a friendly one — can make you more self-conscious and aware of being photographed.
For couples sessions, we typically recommend coming alone. The intimacy we're trying to capture develops more naturally when it's just the two of you with us. For family sessions through Line & Roots, having grandparents nearby to entertain young children between shots can actually be helpful.
If someone absolutely must attend, we can make it work — we'll just position them out of your sightline during shooting.
Portrait photography is about more than creating pretty pictures — it's about preserving moments and emotions that matter. Images you'll treasure not just now, but for decades to come. Photographs that will hang on your walls, live in albums, and eventually be passed down through your family.
