About Renaissance Newport Beach Weddings

Formerly known as the Fairmont, the Renaissance Hotel Newport Beach became a luxurious Marriott property in 2017. Shaped like a contemporary version of a Babylonian ziggurat temple with three sprawling terraced guest wings, The Renaissance Hotel stands out for its unique, otherworldly flare.  And with a rooftop pool, an 8,000 square-foot spa, rows of swaying palm trees, and over 30,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor event spaces, the Renaissance Hotel Newport Beach is the perfect place for not only your wedding ceremony and reception, but to relax and prepare for your big day, and for your private moments like the couple’s photography session pictured below. From Behind the Lens

What we love about shooting
at Renaissance Newport Beach Hotel.

🏛️
Architectural Drama at Every Angle
The ziggurat design creates a stunning geometric backdrop with clean lines, layered terraces, and dramatic shadows that shift throughout the day. We love capturing couples against the contemporary temple-like facade—it's a showstopper that photographs as modern and timeless simultaneously.
☀️
Golden Hour Over the Pacific
Newport Beach's coastal location means incredible golden light in late afternoon, and the rooftop pool area is perfectly positioned to catch that warm glow reflecting off the water. The palm trees frame portraits beautifully during sunset, creating natural silhouettes and ethereal backlighting.
💎
Intimate Ceremony Spaces with View
The terraced design offers multiple ceremony locations with distinct personalities—some tucked and intimate, others sweeping and grand. We can stage ceremonies that feel both cozy and cinematic, with layered backgrounds that add depth and dimension to every shot.
Common Questions

What couples typically ask.

What's the best timeline for photos at Renaissance Newport Beach?
We recommend starting with getting-ready shots in the morning, then moving to couple portraits on the terraces or by the rooftop pool around mid-afternoon when the light is directional but not harsh. Save the ceremony for late afternoon to catch that coastal golden hour, then transition into reception coverage as the venue's ambient lighting takes over at dusk. This flow maximizes the venue's natural light advantages while keeping everyone comfortable.
Where are the most photogenic spots on the property?
The rooftop pool area is iconic—the water reflection and surrounding palms create luxury-resort imagery that's Instagram-worthy. The tiered terraces offer multiple ceremony backdrops with architectural interest, and the manicured garden areas between wings provide intimate, lush portrait settings. The contemporary lobby and grand staircase work beautifully for detail shots and first-look moments.
How does the contemporary architecture affect your photography approach?
The geometric ziggurat design is inherently photogenic—it has strong lines, natural leading elements, and a distinctive visual identity that sets it apart from traditional ballroom venues. We lean into clean compositions, dramatic angles, and the interplay of light and shadow on the building's surfaces. It's a venue where modern, editorial-style photography feels perfectly at home.
Are there good indoor spaces if the weather doesn't cooperate?
Absolutely. The ballrooms are well-lit with plenty of window light, and the contemporary interior design photographs beautifully without feeling sterile. We've shot stunning receptions in the indoor spaces, and the venue's abundance of entry points and glass means we can still capture that Newport Beach essence even if we're not on the terraces.
How early can we access the property for getting-ready photos?
Renaissance Newport Beach typically allows venue access by mid-morning for weddings. We recommend confirming your specific access time during planning so we can schedule hair and makeup accordingly. The hotel's upscale suite spaces are gorgeous for getting-ready coverage, and the grounds offer plenty of locations for pre-ceremony portraits.
