A Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach wedding offers something rare in Southern California: a true oceanfront resort where getting ready, portraits, the ceremony, and the reception all sit within steps of the Pacific. We have photographed weddings here for more than fifteen years, from sunset vows on the Lighthouse Courtyard lawn to elaborate multi-day South Asian celebrations that fill the Grand Ballroom. Over that time we have learned the property inside and out: the quiet walkways that catch the best afternoon light, the timing that gets you onto the sand before the crowds, and the exact corners where the Spanish architecture frames a couple beautifully. Whether you are just starting to tour venues or your date is already booked, this guide shares what our team has learned shooting here so you walk into your day knowing what is possible.
The Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach Resort & Spa opened in 2003 and sits on 18 acres along Pacific Coast Highway, directly across from the beach. Its Spanish-inspired, Andalusian architecture sets the tone for the whole property: warm stucco, carved ceiling beams, seashell sconces, palm-lined courtyards, and fountains tucked around nearly every corner. A private pedestrian bridge crosses PCH and connects the resort straight to the sand, which is one of the details that makes this venue genuinely distinct from other coastal hotels in Orange County.
With more than 110,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor event space, the resort’s 519 guest rooms and 58 suites all open onto private balconies or patios, and the on-site Pacific Waters Spa gives wedding parties a full-service home base for the morning. For couples, that combination of oceanfront setting, flexible space, and a coordinated events team is what keeps this property near the top of nearly every Huntington Beach venue search.

The morning sets the tone for the rest of the day, and the suites here make it easy. They are bright, spacious, and lined with large windows, so we are working with soft, flattering natural light for bridal portraits and the candid moments with your wedding party. We usually scout the room early and position the dress, shoes, invitation suite, and details near the best window before anyone is in hair and makeup.
If you want to elevate the prep experience, the 20,000-square-foot Pacific Waters Spa offers salon and treatment services on property, so the bridal party can move from spa to suite without ever leaving the resort. For larger or multi-day celebrations, having everyone under one roof keeps the timeline relaxed and gives us more time for the images that matter.

One of the best parts of getting married here is the sheer variety of portrait backdrops, all without ever leaving the property. We have spent years finding the spots that balance creative opportunity, elegant architecture, and unique scenery. Many couples book us for both photo and video, and there is a real advantage to that on a property this large. Learn why couples love choosing one company for both photography and videography. Here is a breakdown of our favorite locations for portraits.

This is one of our go-to starting spots. Tucked just off the main paths, these walkways feature warm tones, textured walls, and pockets of soft natural light. The privacy makes them perfect for intimate first looks or romantic portraits away from the crowds.

There are two gorgeous fountains worth mentioning for your Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach wedding photos. First is the 16 Fish Fountain, shown above near the main lobby, a classic backdrop with elegant tilework and calming water features. Then there’s the mermaid fountain, shown below, across from the pedestrian bridge.

Scattered throughout the property are several manicured lawn areas and outdoor spaces, great for larger group photos or romantic wide-angle shots with palm trees and Spanish-style buildings in the background. These spaces are open, clean, and naturally lit, ideal for timeless portraits in the morning or closer to golden hour.

The iconic bridge that connects the resort to the beach is a must for many couples. While it can get busy in the middle of the day with guests heading to the ocean, with a bit of timing and coordination we can usually grab a few stunning shots here. The leading lines and ocean breeze give the images a dynamic, cinematic feel.

Of course, if you’re dreaming of soft sand and golden light, the beach at sunset delivers every time. Just keep in mind that getting to and from the beach can take a bit of time, so it is not for every couple or timeline. But if you can make it work and the weather cooperates, the sunset imagery is incredible. You’re paying for an Orange County beach wedding venue, so you might as well take full advantage.

Don’t overlook the ballroom during your photo timeline. Once it’s fully decorated, it becomes a beautiful space for a few quick portraits surrounded by your floral designs, candles, and uplighting. It’s a great way to document the full atmosphere of your wedding day before guests arrive. In our recommended wedding timelines, we suggest around 15 to 30 minutes for ballroom portraits. This is also a great moment for you to relax and unwind before the excitement of the reception. You can practice your first dance, try your signature cocktails, or just sit and breathe for a minute with your new spouse.
For a first look, our favorite spot on the property is the hidden garden just outside Pacific Waters Spa. You will find a lush, well-maintained garden with a koi pond, quiet and full of greenery, set apart from the rest of the resort. The privacy is exactly what a first look needs, and the soft, even light here is forgiving in the middle of the day.

From there, the couple session flows naturally into the walkways and lawns nearby, then out toward the bridge and beach as the light softens. Building the first look into your timeline early gives us more relaxed minutes together before the ceremony, which almost always shows in the images.

The resort offers two signature outdoor ceremony sites, both with direct Pacific views, plus smaller courtyard options. Each has its own character, and each photographs beautifully at different times of day.
This is the venue’s signature ceremony lawn, spanning 6,000 square feet with room for up to 400 guests. Surrounded by tall palms, it frames your vows with sweeping views of the Pacific and the iconic white Lighthouse Tower. It is ideal for larger ceremonies and makes for dramatic, memorable photographs, especially in the late afternoon when the light wraps around the palms.

A cozier option at 3,500 square feet that accommodates up to 170 guests for a seated ceremony. It sits on a grassy knoll with a serene reflecting pool, often called the fish reflection pool, and overlooks the ocean. Lit at night, the pool catches the reflections of the surrounding palms and architecture, which gives us striking symmetrical compositions for couple portraits after the ceremony.

For more intimate gatherings, the Fountain Courtyard offers a secluded, garden-style setting for up to 90 guests. Each outdoor ceremony site is supported by inclusions like amplification, umbrellas or heaters, rehearsal time, and dedicated event coordination.
Among Huntington Beach wedding reception venues, the Hyatt stands out for the range of its ballrooms, which can host everything from an intimate dinner to a grand, high-energy celebration. All offer in-house, full-service catering, with plated dinners, buffets, and chef-attended action stations available.
Grand Ballroom is the largest oceanfront ballroom in the area at 20,000 square feet, with a banquet capacity of 1,440 guests and room for up to 2,100 for a reception. Floor-to-ceiling windows open onto a wrap-around foyer and terrace with ocean views, and the room divides into seven individual salons for flexibility. It is our top pick for large South Asian and multicultural weddings where scale, energy, and room to move all matter.

Huntington Ballroom is a classic 6,330-square-foot space with ocean views and a private terrace, holding up to 400 guests for a seated dinner. The indoor-outdoor flow through open archways is ideal for couples who want elegance indoors with easy access to the ocean breeze.

Mariners Ballroom is a 10,700-square-foot space with rich tones and a customizable layout for up to 630 guests, adapting well to themed decor and dramatic lighting setups. For smaller receptions and pre-wedding events, the Vista Ballroom offers 3,300 square feet for up to 220 guests, and the Fountain Room holds up to 120 guests in a warm, beam-ceilinged space with natural light and cozy charm. Whether you are planning something classic or completely custom, these spaces are flexible, photogenic, and turnkey.

The Hyatt Regency is one of our favorite venues for South Asian weddings, including Indian, Pakistani, and Sri Lankan celebrations. With spacious lawns for the baraat, ballrooms that can accommodate very large guest counts, and a team familiar with cultural traditions, it is well suited to multi-day events.
We have photographed dozens of Hindu, Sikh, Muslim, and fusion weddings here, from colorful baraats to vibrant sangeets and beautifully designed mandaps. There are plenty of reasons a Hyatt Huntington Beach Indian wedding is so common.

Our team arrives at the Hyatt knowing the property, the light, and the timing already, which means less guessing on your day and more time spent on images. Our approach blends documentary coverage, the real, unscripted moments, with intentional portraiture in the locations we have walked dozens of times. We work closely with the resort’s event team so the timeline runs smoothly from the suite to the courtyard to the ballroom.
