Wedding Preparation at Hyatt Regency Long Beach

One of the perks of planning a hotel wedding is its all-inclusive benefits. You can book a block of rooms for out-of-town guests so that they can sleep just steps away from the spot where you’ll tie the knot. And you can book a suite or two for wedding prep and relax, be pampered, and make memories with your bridal party as you anticipate the moment you’ll say your vows. From Behind the Lens

What we love about shooting
at Hyatt Regency Long Beach.

🌅
Golden Hour Over the Pacific
The lagoon-side location offers unobstructed western exposure, meaning late afternoon light bathes the entire venue in warm, diffused glow during those critical golden hour moments. We consistently capture stunning couple portraits with the harbor and ocean as a naturally backlit backdrop—no artificial setup needed.
Yacht-Lined Waterfront Backdrop
The moored sailboats and harbor views create layers of depth that transform standard couple shots into editorial-quality images. The masts and rigging add architectural interest and leading lines that frame your subjects beautifully without feeling overly staged.
🏛️
Modern Glass & Steel Architecture
The hotel's contemporary lines and floor-to-ceiling windows offer clean, graphic backdrops for detail and getting-ready photography. The glass architecture also reflects and amplifies natural light indoors, reducing the need for heavy flash and creating seamless transitions between candid moments.
Common Questions

What couples typically ask.

What's the ideal timeline for capturing the best light at Hyatt Regency Long Beach?
We recommend scheduling your ceremony for late afternoon (3:30–4:30 PM) to catch that magical golden hour over the water during couple's portraits. This timing also allows cocktail hour to flow into that peak light window, and you'll finish reception photos while ambient light is still flattering. If you prefer a morning ceremony, the east-facing lagoon side offers beautiful soft light for getting-ready and bridal portraits.
Where are the most photogenic spots on the property?
The Rainbow Lagoon waterfront is undeniably our go-to for couple's portraits—the yacht-lined harbor and open water create stunning depth. The hotel's modern glass and steel facades offer clean architectural backdrops near the entrance. We also love the landscaped garden terraces on the south side for family photos and intimate group shots with softer, filtered light.
How does the hotel's scale affect photography coverage?
With 528 rooms and 22,000 square feet of event space, the Hyatt Regency is spacious—which is wonderful for us. We have room to move, multiple vantage points for capturing ceremonies and receptions, and guests have comfortable areas for natural candid moments. The scale means we recommend 10+ hours of coverage to capture the full experience without missing key moments across different spaces.
What makes Hyatt Regency Long Beach unique compared to other Southern California hotel venues?
The combination of waterfront location, architectural modernity, and manicured grounds creates visual variety that most indoor-focused hotel venues don't offer. You get coastal elegance without the logistical challenges of beach ceremonies, and the lagoon backdrop feels distinctly Long Beach—not generic. The hotel also allows guests to stay on-site, which means more relaxed getting-ready timelines and better candid moments throughout the day.
Are there designated getting-ready rooms, and how early can we access them?
Yes, the hotel offers dedicated bridal and groom suites for events. We typically recommend arriving 4–5 hours before the ceremony to capture the full getting-ready journey with soft, natural light. Coordinate directly with the events team about early access to ensure your suite is ready when you arrive, and confirm which rooms have the best window light for those intimate preparation shots.
